What if we simply treated one another the way in which we would like to be treated? What if we didn't use inflammatory words or derogatory names, what if we didn't assault people’s characters, falsely impugn their motives, question their beliefs, values, and patriotism, or demonize them simply because they had different views? What if we showed respect, listened patiently, looked for areas of agreement, and just chose to be civil and to respect one another's basic humanity? This would be a novel approach and perhaps the key to helping each of us learn how to befriend our enemies (those on the other side of the political divide). This week we look at how to find a redemptive way forward in a world that is bitterly divided and increasingly dark.
