#2: Self-Awareness
What Lies Beneath
When an iceberg is floating free in the ocean only about 10% of it can be seen above the water line. The other 90% is hidden deep below the surface, which is also true for us. Many if not most of us present a visible surface image that is a very small part of who we are. This image is comprised of those aspects of self that we feel safe showing to the world. But underneath the surface is a much larger collection of feelings and emotions that we are not as comfortable revealing to others.
Sometimes we’re in touch with those submerged feelings, while at other times we have no idea they are even there. But know it or not, if we fail to address these bedrock feelings and subsequent behavioral patterns that have formed over the years our emotional and spiritual health will remain immature and undeveloped.
Come join us this week as we dare to do an inventory, honestly look at what is going on beneath the surface of our lives, and focus on the importance of self-awareness in our ongoing pursuit of emotional health and spiritual maturity.
