Listen To Your Life

“Listen to your life. See it for the fathomless mystery it is. In the boredom and pain of it, no less than in the excitement and gladness: touch, taste, smell your way to the holy and hidden heart of it, because in the last analysis all moments are key moments, and life itself is grace.”     Frederick Buechner

All too often we forget to look at and listen to our lives. We are too busy or too bored, too anxious or too annoyed. We are caught up in endless drama that never really amounts to much. And time, well, it just moves on. And if we are not careful we will lose sight of what a gift life truly is and how every moment is pregnant with possibility.

At best, our lives are brief, which makes everything we say and do of utmost importance. And that’s why wasting time and wishing it away is so tragic.

Today and tomorrow and the next I invite you to slow down and pay attention, to look and to listen to your life and consider how you can become more grateful for what you have and for who you are. Your life (if it’s anything like mine) probably hasn’t worked out the way you thought or hoped it might. But your life is still a mysterious, wonderful gift to be grateful for and to share with others.

So, live it to the full and share it generously with others: create beauty, be a blessing to others, return insults with kindness, forgive often, and love always. Live into the best version of yourself and when you don’t, ask God to help you and try again. We have one life and no more time to waste.
